For over a year now, I’ve started my mornings with the same thing – a nice, big cup of Four Sigmatic coffee.
The thing that makes it a little different than other coffees is that it incorporates some beneficial mushrooms (like chaga, lion’s mane and cordyceps) and has less caffeine than most coffees (similar to a cup of tea) … but somehow it’s still really energizing!
In case you’re looking for coffee with less caffeine, or if you’re curious about trying mushroom coffee, I wanted to share more about this coffee since it’s made a big difference for me!
Here are some highlights about the coffee:
As far as press and reviews go, Harper’s Bazaar called it the best health coffee, they have over 25,000 5-star reviews on their website, they have over 8,000 reviews on Amazon with an average review of 4.5/5, they have lots of Whole30-approved products, and folks like Dr. Mark Hyman (NYT bestselling author and physician) endorse them on Four Sigmatic’s website.
One of the key reasons I keep buying this coffee is the company’s quality standards which I feel really good about, especially since this is something I drink every single day of my life. 😉 Their products are:
- Vegan & gluten-free
- 3rd party lab-tested (According to their website, they “test all [their] ingredients and final batches in third party laboratories for heavy metals, microbial quality, aflatoxins, mycotoxins, mold, yeast and pesticides.”)
I drink my coffee black – so my review of the taste is based purely on the coffee and nothing else. I like the taste of the Instant Mushroom Coffee with Chaga and Cordyceps best, which works out well because that’s the coffee line that’s most focused on sustained energy, and that’s exactly what I’m looking for. It definitely doesn’t taste odd or mushroomy to me.
I buy their coffee straight through their website via a monthly subscription. I do this for a couple reasons: I like knowing that it’ll be delivered every 30 days so I know I’ll never run out, and the monthly subscription discount is great. I also like the bonuses that come from subscribing through their website (like the samples they often send). Lastly, as a subscriber, I get a discount on all their products – which is great when I want to try something new or buy something as a gift.
As a side note, I wanted to mention that they have really good customer service. In the year that I’ve been ordering directly from them, I’ve only had one hiccup (which in retrospect was likely my mistake) but I was so impressed with how they handled it. Not only did they fix the issue right away, but they went above and beyond with what they sent me to resolve the issue. The moment I got their email about what they’d done, I knew I’d be a long-time customer. 😉
3 MAIN COFFEES THEY OFFER:
They have a several different coffees depending on what you’re looking for – but below is a quick rundown of the three main types of instant coffee. (FYI – these coffees all have 50 mg of caffeine in them.)
- Instant Mushroom Coffee with Lion’s Mane – This coffee blend is for boosting focus and mental benefits. According to their website, “ [it] contains a combined 500 mg of Lion’s Mane and Chaga mushroom extracts along with wild rhodiola root. Lion’s Mane helps you to focus and power on your brain. Coffee can be an outstanding productivity booster, but even more so when enhanced with a pure fruiting body Lion’s Mane extract! These two ingredients work hand-in-hand to create the perfect state of mind for productivity.”
- Instant Mushroom Coffee with Chaga and Cordyceps – This line helps support sustained energy. According to their website it “contains a combined 500mg of Chaga and Cordyceps mushroom extracts along with eleuthero. Coffee is energizing because it stimulates the central nervous system and adrenal glands. Combining this with Cordyceps helps you to produce and maintain steady energy levels while Chaga helps support your immune system.”
- Instant Adaptogen Coffee – This line helps to counter the effects of stress. According to their website, this coffee “contains 200mg of Ashwagandha and Tulsi along with Chaga mushroom and eleuthero. This product is best to master stress and cut out the caffeinated jitters, so you can take on the demands of everyday life!”

OTHER PRODUCTS THEY OFFER:
In case you’re looking to get the benefits of mushrooms in other forms besides coffee, they have tons of options. They have vegan protein powders (I recently sampled the vanilla flavor and it was so good!), matcha’s, cacao’s, and powder blends of mushrooms that you can scoop into whatever you’re drinking. When my mom was recently looking for an immune booster, I got her this and she really likes mixing it into her smoothies. I also recently ordered this to see if it helps on days when I need an added boost because of an overnight wake-up, etc. and am excited to try it out!
I’m not a medical professional so I can’t speak to the health benefits of mushrooms in their products, but I’m definitely a huge fan of this company and its coffee. I’m thrilled I found something that’s organic and lab-tested to avoid any potential contaminants, and I’m so glad I found a coffee I can enjoy jitter-free. All of this plus some potential health benefits to boot…. I’m all in. 😉
Hope you enjoy it if you give it a try!
