One of my all-time favorite finds in the leggings category is the Athleta Altitude Tight in Polartec® Power Stretch®. Especially during wintertime, it has a super soft material that keeps me warm whether I’m inside or outside, is definitely squat-proof, and looks cute on… so it’s a win-win-win 😉
I first learned about Athleta a few years ago when I was shopping for a pair of winter pants for my mom, who like me is about 5’2″. It was so much harder than I expected to find petite length winter workout pants… and that’s how I stumbled across Athleta. I didn’t know too much about them at the time, but I was quickly won over! I especially love that they have inclusive sizing – they usually have petite, normal, tall, and plus sizes available.
Also – their quality is great. I would rank them in the same category as North Face.
Price-wise, they are not inexpensive … but what I really love it that their clothes last super long and still look great years later. My mom literally still wears the same pants I got her years ago ( Altitude Pant in Polartec® Power Stretch® in case anyone is interested) … and they still look great! Actually, she loves them so much that this year when I asked her what she might want for Christmas she asked for the same pants in a different color 😉 I’m so glad she loves them!
I actually ended up buying those same pants soon after I gifted them to her because I was really impressed with how they felt and what she told me…. and I still have and wear that pair today. I love the feeling of the Polartec material. Maybe it’s because I really hate cold weather, but I so appreciate the softness and warmth of it. When colder-weather rolls around it’s one of my favorite things to pull out of my winter storage boxes!
This year I ended up buying the Athleta Altitude Tight in Polartec® Power Stretch® because I wanted to try a different fit. (It’s more of a leggings/tights look versus my last pair which are more of a straight-leg pant.)
It’s been so great for any workouts including squats or stretching… no transparency issues whatsoever! I workout in my basement, and it’s usually just me and my toddler … so nobody’s actually worried about transparency issues around here lol … but I am majorly impressed with how squat proof they are. For about 5 seconds, I thought about inserting a picture of me wearing these to show how squat-proof they are …. but yes, I decided against inserting a picture of my behind … I’m sure many of you can understand why 😁) Sorry I can’t offer a visual, but they have lots of different pictures on the Athleta website here if you’re interested.
Here’s what makes these leggings great in my opinion:
- Machine washable and dryable. (I probably throw mine in the dryer about half the time and air-dry the other half b/c I love them so much I want to help keep them around for as long as possible! That said, I’ve never had any issues putting them in the dryer.)
- Comfy wide waistband. This is huge for me. Since I’m running around after a toddler most days, the last thing I want to be is uncomfortable. I can wear these pants playing on the floor with my son, but I can also jump on the Peloton or do squats or lunges wearing these. Totally comfy!
- Free returns on all orders! This is amazing, especially in COVID times like we’re experiencing now, it’s just so great to easily try clothes on at home and return or exchange whatever doesn’t work without having paying for return shipping. Love this!
- Flattering fit. I’d say you can size up or down in these pants depending on how you like your fit. I would size up if you want a more casual/looser look, and down for a more fitted feel.
Side note – if you decide to buy these, you can check out the sales Athleta sometimes has. They usually have black-Friday/cyber Monday sales (this year it was 20% all items), and I believe they have sales around major holidays like Christmas, New Year’s, etc., so it’s always great to check back then if you’re interested in purchasing. [Also, they currently have a 20% coupon on their website for first-time subscribers to their email list.]
Hope this post was helpful to you! Over the last few years, I’ve slowly started to switch over to clothing like these Athleta tights that lasts really long, because I find that it’s so much easier to have pieces in my closet that I reach for over and over again, versus an item that maybe I picked up on sale but hasn’t held up well and just sits in the back of my closet. I may not buy clothes as often now, but I definitely enjoy the pieces I do own a whole lot more!
So, if you are looking for a pair of squat-proof leggings, or just looking for a pair of great cozy leggings that you can lounge in all winter, I highly recommend these!
