Over the last few months, Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment Serum has become one of my favorite hair products. It’s made such a difference in my hair so I wanted to share in case it’s helpful to anyone else.
Initially, I tried it because I was looking for something to help with winter dry and itchy scalp. Especially after blow-drying, my scalp had been feeling itchy and uncomfortable – so I’d been on the hunt for something to fix this plus prevent flaking.
I came across Briogeo’s Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment Serum when I was searching online for a solution. It had clean ingredients and glowing reviews (it’s an Allure 2017 Best of Beauty Award Winner) – so I decided it was worth a shot. 😉
Here’s a little about what it does:
PRODUCT INFO
According to its description on Briogeo’s website, it “detoxifies and removes buildup from the scalp, soothes itchy, irritated, and flaky scalp, and hydrates the scalp to prevent dryness and flakiness.”
Here’s more about how it works: “This unique treatment infuses Binchotan charcoal to draw impurities from the scalp and hair follicle to remove buildup and provide the foundation for optimal scalp health. A cooling blend of peppermint and spearmint oils reduces scalp itchiness and tea tree oil has anti-septic and healing properties that reduce scalp irritation and inflammation. Witch Hazel water helps to normalize oil production to prevent an oily scalp while sodium hyaluronate and aloe keep the scalp balanced and hydrated. Super-vitamin, Biotin, provides essential nutrients to the hair follicle to support healthy hair growth.”
It’s safe for color treated, keratin treated, chemically-treated, and relaxed hair.
How to USE IT
After washing your hair, part your hair into sections and apply 1-2 drops to each section. (There’s also a video here on Briogeo’s website if you want to see how to apply it.)
MY EXPERIENCE
After following the instructions and applying a few drops of the serum on different areas of my scalp, it *really* makes my scalp feel good... it feels so nice and moisturized, but not at all greasy. I’ve seen a huge improvement in how less itchy my scalp feels (I’m usually completely itch-free now) – and on those rare instances when I feel a tiny bit itchy, I just rub a tiny drop on that spot and it immediately feels better.
Using this product has completely helped with any itchiness/flaking I had, and I wasn’t expecting any benefits beyond that – but I was happily surprised to find it had other benefits too. After about a week or two, I noticed less fallout in the shower after washing, plus I noticed my hair was shinier and healthier (especially near the roots) within about a week of starting to use it. The results I experienced were nearly immediate and I was so pleased with these bonus benefits!
COMPANY & INGREDIENTS
Briogeo is a woman-owned and Black-owned business, which personally feels great to support. It was founded by Nancy Twine who was in search of creating “a high-performance, hair care collection that is naturally based, yet performance driven to provide visible results.”
Briogeo also uses clean ingredients. According to their website, “Briogeo is 6-free hair care; meaning our formulas are free of harsh sulfates (SLS/SLES), silicones, parabens, phthalates, DEA and synthetic color. All products are 90 to 100 percent naturally derived. Briogeo formulas are cruelty-free, gluten free and mostly vegan.”
FINAL THOUGHTS
Overall, in my experience Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment Serum really helps to promote a healthy scalp… plus, I love that my hair is healthier and more shiny – so I’m definitely going to stick with it. 😉
It’s become one of my go-to’s that I use after every single hair wash. Though the bottle is pretty small, it requires such a small amount per application – I’m guessing it will last me about 6-12 months. Such a great value!
If you’re interested in giving it a try, it’s available through Briogeo’s website, Sephora, Nordstrom, and more. Hope you enjoy it if you give it a try!
